    Building Control - Regulations

    compass and rulerThe Building Control team implements and enforces the Building Regulations and associated requirements made under the Building Act 1984, Building Regulations 2010 and the Hampshire Act 1983.

    The Building Act 1984

    The Building Act 1984 is the primary legislation under which the Building Regulations and other secondary legislation are made.

    The many powers of the Building Act 1984 include those for:

    • Setting the status of Approved Documents
    • Dangerous structures
    • Demolition of buildings
    • The role of Approved Inspectors
    • Enforcement of Building Regulations
    • Powers of entry to premises

    and many more.

    Building Regulations 2010

    The legislative framework of the "Building Regulations" is principally made up of:

    • The Building Regulations 2010; and
    • The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2000

    Both have been amended several times since 2010.

    Hampshire Act 1983

    This act gives the county and local authorities in the county powers to make decisions in addition to the national legislation.
