The District of East Hampshire and the Council

East Hampshire is a very attractive rural District covering nearly 200 square miles.  The District is a very pleasant area in which to live and work and it attracts a large number of visitors each year. There is also an attractive and well preserved built environment with many listed buildings in its towns and villages.

The Council and its services

The Council employs some 320 full and part time staff and many of our services are outsourced to external contractors. Policies and strategies are developed and determined by 44 Councillors.

We have achieved and retained the Investor in People Award as recognition of our investment in our staff to improve both individual performance and organisational development.

We are a dynamic local authority with a fresh and optimistic approach to meetings challenges and opportunities and have a clear focus about what we want to achieve and be judged on.

Our staff have identified a set of core values which will guide their work and assist in achieving the Council’s overall aim and priorities. These are Responsibility for our own actions, Fairness and integrity in all that we do, and Respect and support for each other.

We will continue to work with our committed and professional staff to continuously improve the organisation.

Central to our philosophy is a belief in partnership and ‘joined up’ working with people and organisations who share our goals for the district. This involves collaborating with voluntary, private and public agencies to ‘enable’ things to happen, often to provide facilities and services which we could not provide alone.

We are developing stronger participation with our customers, by asking for their views and involving them in matching local services to their requirements.

Also at the heart of our approach is the belief in partnership within the Council. We are moving away from old fashioned relationships and towards recognising that everyone within our organisation has a part to play in making the Council excellent at what it does and satisfying to work for.
