    glassKerbside Glass Collection Service

Our residents just put the box containing their bottles and jars out for collection by 7am on their appropriate recycling day - it will be once every four weeks.

What can be put in the box?

Rinsed out glass bottles and jars – no tops or corks please, but labels are not a problem. All colours can be put in together.

What CAN NOT be put in the box?

    • pyrex
    • light bulbs
    • glass panes
    • lead crystal glass
    • ceramics
    • non-glass items
    • broken glass should be carefully wrapped and put into your refuse bin.

If your box cannot be taken because it contains incorrect items, the box will be left and the incorrect items will need to be removed before your next collection.

    Too much glass?

Only glass contained within the EHDC box can be collected. If you regularly have too much to fit in the box please contact us and we will deliver a second one to you for £5.00 including delivery, or £2.00 when collected from the council offices at Penns Place. Only 38 litre boxes will be collected.

Please continue to use the bottle banks for larger quantities of bottles and jars.

Why do we need another container?

We need to collect glass separately from the other recyclables because it is processed at a different place but more importantly the regular lorry would crush it, thus reducing the value and possible uses of all the paper and card collected.

Properties that cannot be reached by the standard collection truck

Plastic boxes have been distributed to around 1,800 properties across the district that cannot be reached by the standard collection trucks. A smaller truck will collect glass from these properties. If you live in one of these "Difficult Access" properties please refer to your new, soon to be delivered, calendar for details of when to expect your glass collections.
