    Streetcare

litter binEast Hampshire District Council has teamed up with Winchester City Council to share environmental services across both areas, saving more than £2 million in the process.

The new contract means The Landscape Group will now be cutting the grass, sweeping the streets, emptying litter bins and clearing illegally dumped (fly-tipped) rubbish.

Schedules and collection rounds have been re-arranged to make them more efficient, economic and environmentally friendly so you may notice a change in your local area.

The council cleans and sweeps public highways in the district and arranges for grass verges and open spaces to be cut. We currently have 9 cuts per annum which has recently been increased to account for the longer growing period now experienced in southern England.

EHDC's Waste Services department covers the following aspects of streetcare:

    • litter-picking & emptying of over one thousand bins
    • grass cutting of public verges and open spaces
    • mechanical road sweeping
    • graffiti cleaning (offensive)

    Local Litter Champions!

Could you organise a street or neighbourhood litter-picking event?

Or perhaps act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of your community if your area suffers from fly-tipping? (see 'Stop The Drop' below)

We will provide equipment, training and support, and take away however much rubbish you collect. Studies show that when people take an active interest in their neighbourhood it is the best way to deter anti-social behaviour.

Please come forward and contact us if you’d like to make a difference.

Have a look at the Love Where You Live website for ideas and a different way to organise a local clean-up.

Litter picking our main trunk roads (the A31 & A3) is expensive, time consuming and dangerous.  If you see litter being thrown from a vehicle please report it to the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.
